Location:
The Hunter-Tannersville Central School District is located in Greene County, New York. The 164 square mile district is situated approximately 50 miles southwest of Albany and is accessible by the NYS Thruway: Exits 20 and 21 are about 20 miles away. This mountaintop and rural school system is comprised of the entire Town of Hunter and portions of the Towns of Lexington and Jewett. Located entirely within the Catskill State Park, the school district serves students from the communities of Haines Falls, Elka Park, Lanesville, West Kill, Tannersville, Hunter, Lexington and East Jewett.
Community Profile:
The ski industry and outdoor recreation influence largely the socio-economics of the school. Tourism and the mountainous environment have impacted on the demographics: there are three seasonal private communities, many vacation homes and many year round newcomers who appreciate the natural surroundings. Characterized by ethnic and religious diversity, the registered voters have seen increasing civic and cultural amenities, consistent pride in their public schools and the small town desire to offer a helping hand when needed. The notable tourist attractions are North Lake Campground, the Mountaintop Arboretum and Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl.
